ACL Leader in Focus – Michael Nicoletti

Michael Nicoletti is the Branch Manager for Meridian Credit Union’s Beamsville Branch. A  graduate of Brock University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Michael considers himself a resilient, passionate and strong communicator.

With over fifteen years of professional experience in service-driven industries such as Financial Services, Marketing and Hospitality, he has excelled in building a strong professional network by ensuring that with every interaction, he exceeds expectations.

Michael enjoys playing the guitar and his passion for music provided him with the opportunity to play in several Niagara based bands and build lifelong relationships within the Niagara Arts Community. Music has also provided him with the opportunity to learn about the business side of the music industry. He channelled his gifts into managing his younger brother’s band where they have had the opportunity to record two full-length albums in New York City and Los Angeles.

Michael is very proud to be an active member of the Niagara community. In 2011, he joined the Big Brothers Big Sister Niagara program as a mentor and is still committed to building lasting friendships. His commitment to the program was highlighted in the Niagara Falls Review in 2012 as a Volunteer Spotlight. Working for Meridian Credit Union over the past five years has enabled Michael to be more deeply involved and committed to growing our community.

How do you define civic leadership?

Civic leadership means leaders coming together, sharing extraordinary attributes in a collaborative effort to make a difference in our communities. By utilizing their strong networks, civic leaders take pride in bringing forward recommendations to influence change, create solutions and strengthen relationships for the betterment of our communities.

In your view, what’s the most important attribute of a leader?

In my view, resilience is the most important attribute of a leader. When working towards a common goal, the ability to adapt to change and preserver are important success measures to demonstrate to yourself and to your team.

Why are you personally motivated to explore civic leadership?

Being among a group of driven professional leaders who are passionate about their development and commitment to our communities is inspiring. I am motivated to learn and grow as a leader and share this experience with a group of influencers inspired to achieve the same common goals.
As a Branch Manager for Meridian Credit Union in the Niagara Region, we take pride in our commitment to our communities. I am motivated to strengthen my network to help support our Corporate Values and better the community I live in.

What, in your view, is the most significant issue/opportunity facing our community? Why?

Niagara has experienced rapid growth within the past decade. The rise in housing markets has created a shift in population coming from the GTA to Niagara as a desirable affordable community to live. Positively, our communities are growing and thriving like never before. One of our greatest opportunities is creating awareness and welcoming our new commuters to the incredible community of Niagara. With the convenience of life at our fingertips, we need to think creatively and work together to activate our new residents to embrace our community.
