Our Leader Spotlight | Bruno Lizzotti

Manager of People & Wellness, Canadian Mental Health Association, Niagara Branch

This series is dedicated to introducing and celebrating the participants of the ACL+ 2021/22 program. Each week, we will focus on one of our leaders, sharing a little bit about them and what motivates them to explore community leadership in Niagara.

Bruno Lizzotti is the current Manager of People and Wellness for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Niagara Branch.

Over the last 14 years, Bruno’s values have aligned with CMHA Niagara’s and we share the same desire to create a healthier community. He grew up in St. Catharines, graduated from Brock University and Niagara College, and lives in Niagara Falls with his wife and three children. Bruno is actively involved with the Greater Niagara Baseball Association and takes great pride in our player’s development of leaders on and off the field.

Bruno is truly excited and honoured at the opportunity through Leadership Niagara to expand his leadership skills and to help develop a strong Niagara community.

Why are you personally motivated to explore civic leadership?

As a lifelong Niagara resident, I feel compelled to support the community that has provided me with rich experiences and education. Exploring civic leadership provides me with the opportunity to reach more members of our community and help lead positive change for a healthier Niagara.

What, in your view, is the most significant issue/opportunity facing our community? Why?

I believe the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light the health equity issues in Niagara; those who are in the greatest need of mental and physical health support often struggle the most to receive the care they need. Lack of known safe resources and a consistent voice for those who are struggling have helped contribute to the widening gap between those who can afford and access support and those who cannot.

What individual attributes do you hope to develop or expand upon?

The individual attributes that I would like to expand on collaboration, influence and impact and building relationships. I would like to further develop change management, inclusion and diversity and systems approach competencies to assist my own professional goals and growth.

What Is ACL+?

Accelerate Civic Leadership+ is our answer to adapting our flagship Accelerate Civic Leadership (ACL) program for virtual learning.

Designed as a tool to expand the number of individuals who accept leadership roles in business, government, and social organizations to meet future challenges in the region, ACL+ strengthens the bonds within the region. It serves as a retention and engagement tool for our Niagara businesses and non-profits.
