This series is dedicated to introducing and celebrating the participants of the ACL+ 2021 program. Each week, we will focus on one of our leaders; sharing a little bit about them and what motivates them to explore community leadership in Niagara.
Rima Boles holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from McMaster University and a Masters of Arts in Art History from the University of Western Ontario.
Passionate about arts education, Rima has worked in the not-for-profit arts sector for over 10 years as an Art Instructor, Gallery Educator and Education Programs Manager. She has an extensive background in arts education and not-for-profit administration from her experience at The Powerplant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto and The Latcham Gallery in Stouffville.
In her current position as Director, Rima is responsible for managing day-to-day operations as well as contributing to the future development of the organization both artistically and strategically.
I have a strong interest in the well-being of the Niagara Region and am passionate about the vital role of non-profits and the arts within it. Over my 6 years at The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre, my leadership role has developed from Gallery Manager to Director and I am committed to further developing my leadership skills in my career. I value continuing education and believe professional development is important throughout my career.
In my view, the most significant issue facing our community at large is our aging senior population. The aging baby boomers will have a strong impact on the economic, social and health systems. This will affect the Niagara Region more than other areas because Niagara has the fourth largest percentage of seniors in the country.
I think the effects of our current Covid-19 pandemic on individuals and businesses in our community cannot be overlooked. Individuals in our community, following Covid guidelines have been more isolated than ever before which will have lasting psychological impacts. Covid regulations affected businesses to varying degrees based on sector. The non-profit sector has been particularly hard-hit and many non-profits will be closed by the end of the year, which will have lasting social and economic affects.
