Facilities & Maintenance Supervisor, City of Niagara Falls
This series is dedicated to introducing and celebrating the participants of the ACL+ 2021/22 program. Each week, we will focus on one of our leaders, sharing a little bit about them and what motivates them to explore community leadership in Niagara.
Jim Jervis is a Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Niagara Falls. A 30-year career with a mechanical aptitude and a base foundation of knowledge as a mechanical engineer and technologist, he began working in manufacturing supporting production operations, new product launches and developing new manufacturing processes.
Jim found his true passion in the evolving concepts of process improvements and cutting-edge experience with JIT, Lean, and six sigma methodologies. Now extending continuous improvement to all aspects of organizations. Coupling this with systems operations and facilities management utilizing the concepts of reliability-centred maintenance.
Jim spends time together with family, camping and motorcycles but finds the best adventures are when they‘re done altogether.
Why are you personally motivated to explore civic leadership?
Apply energy, knowledge and experience to give back to the community, through more reliable services and more efficiently run operations.
What, in your view, is the most significant issue/opportunity facing our community? Why?
Improving service delivery while reducing operational and asset costs to redistribute to other social initiatives of homeless, climate change.
What individual attributes do you hope to develop or expand upon?
Communication, collaboration, change management process improvement and cost reduction initiatives on a larger scale
What Is ACL+?
Accelerate Civic Leadership+ is our answer to adapting our flagship Accelerate Civic Leadership (ACL) program for virtual learning.
Designed as a tool to expand the number of individuals who accept leadership roles in business, government, and social organizations to meet future challenges in the region, ACL+ strengthens the bonds within the region. It serves as a retention and engagement tool for our Niagara businesses and non-profits.
