Our Leader Spotlight | Jason Bertrim

Production Supervisor, Walker Industries

This series is dedicated to introducing and celebrating the participants of the ACL+ 2021/22 program. Each week, we will focus on one of our leaders, sharing a little bit about them and what motivates them to explore community leadership in Niagara.

Jason has been a resident of the Niagara Region for 19 years and has worked for Walker Industries for the past 27 years. Previously living in Kingston, Ontario where Walkers had a manufacturing plant, Jason started his career with the company there. Now, as Production Supervisor of the Burlington, ON. plant where he oversees the daily operations, manpower and production of products. He aspires to grow with his Company as they leap forward with more and more environmentally conscious decisions to make Walkers a sustainable growing business.

Jason makes the most of his time on weekends and always finds time for outdoor activities and work around his farm. The outdoors is his passion and he is happy to introduce new people to the world of naturalist and conservationist behaviour. If you ask him to go for a hike or paddle or just to go look at birds, he can’t say no.

Why are you personally motivated to explore civic leadership?

As an employee of a company that is very community orientated, I feel that I could join in their effort to contribute to our community that supports our business.

What, in your view, is the most significant issue/opportunity facing our community? Why?

I believe that the majority of families do not feel as though they belong to a community and therefore cannot relate to issues that face all of us as citizens of the same community. If a community has relatable leaders that understand the societal issues and will help solve them, it can bring members together as a community.

What individual attributes do you hope to develop or expand upon?

I would like to expand my knowledge of civic politics and policy and understand how and why decisions are made that affect the community and its citizens.

What Is ACL+?

Accelerate Civic Leadership+ is our answer to adapting our flagship Accelerate Civic Leadership (ACL) program for virtual learning.

Designed as a tool to expand the number of individuals who accept leadership roles in business, government, and social organizations to meet future challenges in the region, ACL+ strengthens the bonds within the region. It serves as a retention and engagement tool for our Niagara businesses and non-profits.
