Our Leader Spotlight – Nina Hardman

Senior Operations Efficiency and Project Specialist, Meridian Credit Union

This series is dedicated to introducing and celebrating the participants of the ACL+ 2021 program. Each week, we will focus on one of our leaders, sharing a little bit about them and what motivates them to explore community leadership in Niagara.

Nina was born and raised in the Niagara Region. As a proud member of the Meridian Credit Union team for over 20 years, she was originally drawn to the organization because of its strong commitment to local communities across Ontario, specifically Niagara. She enjoys volunteer work and acting as an ambassador of the Meridian brand.

Outside of work Nina enjoys hosting BBQs and dinners for her friends and family with her husband Brian.  She is an avid sports fan, enjoys attending concerts and the ballet, but also enjoys a quiet day with a cup of tea and a good book.

Why are you personally motivated to explore civic leadership?

I often participate in community events and really enjoy the sense of belonging and accomplishment that it brings. I am motivated to explore civic leadership to develop my skills to promote community involvement to others.

“The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.”

Ronald Reagan

What, in your view, is the most significant issue/opportunity facing our community? Why?

Due to COVID19 and the multiple lockdowns Ontario has faced, I feel that our biggest opportunity to build support for our small businesses.

What individual attributes do you hope to develop or expand upon?

I do not have a lot of leadership experience to date, so I am working on my leadership style during this program.

The attributes I hope to develop are; how to motivate/coach employees to exceed expectations. As well as understand how others manage to be open and honest with their employees while maintaining a professional relationship.
